Protecting the Environment

So, during my teens and early 20s, I was a huge environmentalist.

I am still very much into protecting the earth that God gave us. After all, we are the stewards of this earth. HOWEVER, I believe in practical protection. I do not believe that we are supposed to put ourselves in danger or stop living in order to protect the environment.

I have to be honest here. I LOVE trees. I would like to live in a forest if it weren't for the fact that I desperately want a vegetable garden and they need sun to grow. However, sometimes the extreme environmentalists that have the media attention make me want to cut down a tree-any tree.

I have a very realistic way of looking at the environment. For instance, I don't think we should build a new building IF an old empty one can be remade to our specifications. On the other hand, I don't think that a new building is wrong if an empty one isn't available or is totally inappropriate. I happen to be a country girl who wants the country to stay country. It drives me nuts to see all the housing developments going up. On the other hand, I see that people want to get of the city and I don't have a problem with that. It's a delicate balancing act. And that is the problem I have with the environmental movement. There is no balance. It is all about wiping out man.

Unfortunately, the way they have such a single minded agenda toward the destruction of our societal structure that it turns me totally off to their message of preserving the earth. In fact, it has the completely opposite effect on me. I guess what bugs me the most about this is that I know it is important to protect our environment. But this makes me want to destroy it. I wonder how many other people are effected the same way.

My math teacher proctects environment to the extreme.

Protecting environment is a good thing, but it shouldn't be forced upon anybody.

I know what you mean. The delivery can be awfully annoying.

I definitely care about the human race making more of an effort not to pollute and waste every last natural resource we have. If I can find a way to reduce the waste that my household outputs, then I will....but some of this "envinronmentalism" is very politically motivated and has absolutely nothing with improving environmental awareness.

It doesn't reduce the impact on earth to build a NEW "green" house when you could've just improved the efficiency of your old house.

And I'm sorry, but those low-energy lightbulbs suck. I'm not using them.

I think it could be summed up with this: Are you worshipping the Creation or the Creator? Environmentalists worship the creation; that's partly why I don't buy into it. If they taught practical protection, I think they might've convinced me. But, they've turned it into their religion, and that's not what I worship.

As for the flourescent light bulbs. UGH. I hate those. I'll pay the extra in my utility bill just to have incandescent.

I firmly believe that mankind was given stewardship over the earth by the Creator.

In addition - There will come a time in which mankind will be held accountable by our Creator for our part in stewarding His creation. I am passionate about sustainable living with a reduced/limited environmental impact.

Note - I am NOT 'GRANOLA-CRUNCHY'.

I simply believe in good stewardship and sustainable living.

And yes, we use the flourescent lightbulbs (for overhead and lamps). They aren't that bad when you adjust to them. The main drawbacks I've noticed are 1) take a few seconds to 'warm up' when it's cold, and 2) flourescent light itself irritates our eyes, so at night we often turn them all off and use a few well-placed candles in whatever room we're in, or in the day, open the curtains to maximize the sunlight.

Besides, who needs 'overt political environmental programming' (from any political party), when God lays out the parameters of good stewardship in the Bible for us?
